Lecturer is suspected to have died of Covid-19

KUCHING, Mar 31: A lecturer of a public university in Kota Samarahan reported to have passed away this morning is suspected to have died from Covid-19.

However, the State Disaster Management Committee has yet to issue an official statement to confirm that the death was related to Covid-19 as at press time.

According to a news report on March 22, an internal circular of the university which informed that an academic staff tested positive for Covid-19 was leaked and went viral on social media.


The university, in the circular, assured that they were working closely with the Division Health Office to trace all known contacts of the staff to be put under home quarantine.

It added that works to clean and disinfect places within the university had also been conducted.

Meanwhile, Sarawak registered two Covid-19 deaths yesterday (March 30), bringing the total number of deaths to seven.

The state also recorded six new confirmed Covid-19 cases and this brought the total number of cases to 135 cases since March 13.

All the six cases were being treated in SGH (3), Miri Hospital (2) and Sibu Hospital (1). —DayakDaily
