KUCHING, Oct 8: Yayasan Perpaduan Sarawak (YPS) and The Tuyang Initiative invites the public to join the elders and learn how to make the ceremonial Iban headgear called the ‘Sugu Tinggi’ this coming Sunday (Oct 10) from 1pm to 3pm via an online video workshop.
The first workshop for the ‘Learning From Our Elders’ programme organised by YPS in collaboration with The Tuyang Initiative and as part of the MYY Living Arts campaign will be conducted in hybrid mode.
Ten participants will be attending the event physically in Miri, while the public can join through online platforms such as Zoom or follow the livestream through the Facebook pages of MYY Living Arts and YPS.
According to YPS in a statement today, this will allow those who are unable to register for the session to join in the workshop to create ‘Sugu Tinggi’.
The Learning From Our Elders programme aims to expose and educate the public about Sarawak’s crafts and enable them to pick up or learn the cultural and creative skills from experts in the field.
The first workshop will showcase the art of creating Sugu Tinggi which will be conducted by Sam Anthony, who is an expert with five years of experience.
The first 10 participants who signed up for the programme will receive exclusive access to the Zoom workshop and entitled to a craft kit complete with all the materials and tools required to create the ‘Sugu Tinggi’ worth RM100, which can be collected in Miri.
