KUCHING, Aug 5: Sarawakians should not waste their votes on “naive” politicians in the upcoming Sarawak’s “mother of all elections”.

This is the opinion of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) information chief Datuk Idris Buang who expressed belief that Pakatan Harapan (PH) was a good example of how rookie politicians even after being elected, will still be “doomed to fail”.

“Whether we do it together with federal (government) and Sabah or not, as far as Sarawak is concerned, this election will be the ‘mother of all elections’ for Sarawak.

“This is so because it will determine whether a PH-like ‘doomed to fail government’ would appear or re-appear, or that GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak), a matured dedicated party with all the exemplary knowledge and experience in running a responsible government now being led by Chief Minister (Datuk Patinggi) Abang Johari (Tun Openg) and others in GPS would be strongly mandated to bring the desired political and economic stability, progress and development in the state,” Idris told DayakDaily today.

He said under any circumstances, those in PBB and GPS will give this election their utmost best shot so that with GPS as a strong and stable state government, they would be able to continue to shower Sarawak with their fullest dedication to make it the best, richest and most stable and liveable state in Malaysia .

“GPS leaders are proven successful in bringing uncountable recognisable people-centric deliverables to the people relentlessly.

“Therefore, it is my sincere hope that our respectful (sic) voters will not waste their valuable votes to try the unknowns like some naive ones in the PRU14 (14th general election or GE14) who got swayed by the opposition’s rhetorics.

“Many who did that mistake have since ‘realised and repented’ and now chose to stay aloof from such PH-like culture of politics and empty promises,” opined Idris who is also the Muara Tuang assemblyman.

On whether the Sarawak election will be held concurrently with Sabah’s as well as GE15, Idris responded: “It is not probable though not impossible”.

“Whatever is the case, we all ought to be ready,” he asserted, highlighting that the power to dissolve the Sarawak Legislative Assembly lies with the Chief Minister.

Idris made these remarks in response to an online news report that Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is expected to announce GE15 in the near future.

The report cited a source close to United Malays Nasional Organisation (Umno) that Muhyiddin will do so to enable GE15 to be held simultaneously with the Sabah and Sarawak state elections.

The article also reported that the standard operating procedure (SOP) applied to the Chini by-election, if proven effective, will be used as the SOP for the upcoming GE15 as well as Sarawak and Sabah state elections.

The Sabah state election is expected to be held following its incumbent Chief Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal’s announcement of the dissolution of the Sabah Legislative Assembly (Sabah DUN) last Thursday (July 30, 2020).

Meanwhile, rumours of Muhyiddin dissolving Parliament have been rampant as it is widely believed that the ruling coalition of Perikatan Nasional (PN) has only two seats more than the PH opposition coalition. — DayakDaily
