KUCHING, Oct 16: The on-going repair work on a leaking submarine pipe at Sungai Rajang is disrupting water supply to Tanjung Manis, Rejang, Belawai, Jerijih, Serdeng and Pulau Bruit.

The Ministry of Utilities, in a press statement today, said it was alerted of the repair work by Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) today and that the source of the leakage was discovered on Sunday (Oct 14).

“The leakage could possibly be due to ageing and fading pipes and intense high water pressure rushing through it. JBALB will do its level best to hasten the repair work, as the pipe is submerged,” the ministry said.

The statement added that JBALB had taken steps to send clean water to the 14 affected areas using between two and three water tankers. In addition, JBALB would also put up big storage tanks in strategic locations to ensure that the affected folk would have access to more water during the repair period.

Consumers are advised to take the necessary steps to prevent water wastage during this period. They will be updated regularly on the progress of the repair work, the ministry assured.
