Layar assemblyman presents RM70,900 assistance to fire victims from Rh August Jamping in Ban Ulu Betong

KUCHING, April 28: Layar assemblyman Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu presented assistance worth RM70,900 to 11 families from Rh August Jamping longhouse in Ban Ulu Betong who were victims of a recent fire.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, the assistance was handed over to the recipients through the Welfare Department (JKM) in a simple ceremony held at Dewan Panglima Rentap, during his visit recently.

The assistance included pocket money, food assistance, daily clothes, school clothes, bedding, kitchen equipment and building materials assistance worth RM5,000.


During the visit, he also held a discussion with victims regarding their plan to set up a temporary longhouse settlement near the destroyed longhouse with the government’s help.

The residents plan to hold a ceremony for the establishment of their temporary settlement on May 5.

Meanwhile, Rentap presented contributions to 50 individuals from Asnaf groups and selected needy families in Betong, in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations organised by the Che Zhong Khor Betong Moral Uplifting Organisation at the centre.

He also presented Che Zhong Khor Betong Moral Uplifting Organisation with a RM30,000 Minor Rural Project (MRP) cheque as funds for their activities.

Among others receiving the MRP cheques were eight surau, mosque and non-governmental organisations from the Malay community in Betong. — DayakDaily
