KUCHING, March 10: The construction of the Lawas Administration Complex, which was supposed to wrapped up at the end of last year, has resumed and is expected to be completed in November next year.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the construction has only reached 19.52 per cent completion at this point.
He explained that the contractor of the project was facing manpower shortage issues on top of restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We have already discussed how this contractor can ensure delivery.
“The contractor has also presented their plans, one of which is to extend their working time and this depends on their foreign labour application,” he added.
Awang Tengah visited the project site with Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Aidel Lariwoo on Thursday (March 9), reported Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas).
Meanwhile, Awang Tengah, who is also Bukit Sari assemblyman, called on Lawas locals who are skilled in construction works to seize this job opportunity to reduce dependency on foreign workers.
With the completion of the Lawas Administration Complex which costs more than RM180 million, he said, it will house several department in Lawas and further improve services provision to the community. — DayakDaily
