KUCHING, May 8: Former Sarawak Governor (TYT), the late Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, is the reason that all sub-ethnicities in Sarawak have representation in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS).

Tasik Biru assemblyman Dato Henry Harry Jinep highlighted this as part of the late Taib’s contribution during his 33-year tenure as the Chief Minister of Sarawak before he was appointed as the TYT, serving from March 1, 2014 until January 2024.

“During his tenure, we observed that he (late Taib) has been fair to all races.

“Take this Dewan for instance, we can see that all sub-ethnicities are being represented in the Dewan. This is one of the examples of how important he is to the unity of Sarawak people,” he said when speaking in support of the Motion of Appreciation for the late Taib in the DUS sitting here today.

Henry who is also Deputy Minister of Transport (Maritime and Riverine) further criticised Padungan assemblyman Chong Chieng Jen who had earlier claimed that while the late Taib may have contributed to the development of Sarawak, the latter’s administration when he was then chief minister was ‘suspicious’.

“There is no man that is perfect and I feel saddened over Chong’s statement,” he added. — DayakDaily
