MIRI, April 2: Heavy rainfall on March 31 triggered a landslide, impacting eight out of the 41 doors of a longhouse in Niah.

The incessant downpour saturated the soil, leading to destabilisation of the surrounding terrain.

According to a report by Miri Civil Defence Force (APM), they were notified of the incident this morning.

Following the report, a team of APM Miri personnel rushed to Tuai Rumah Mandau Empenit in Suai Niah around 10.15am to monitor the situation.

The landslide, which occurred just two days ago, affected 200 villagers.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.

Based on APM’s monitoring report, the landslide occurred approximately three meters from the longhouse’s backyard.

The affected villagers have been advised to remain vigilant as their areas remain susceptible to further landslides.

They have been urged to relocate to safer grounds if their current location is deemed unsafe. — DayakDaily
