Landslide hit Rh Bantan, villagers advised to vacate if situation worsens

BETONG, March 20: Residents of Rh Bantan in Ulu Layar, here, had a shocking ordeal after a landslide hit the village early morning today.

Fire and Rescue department immediately deployed a team of firefighters after receiving a distress call of the incident at 4am.

“After arriving at the location, it was found that a landslide occurred in front of the longhouse and a storage unit belonging to one of the longhouse folk was affected,” the department said in a statement.

The villagers have been advised to remain cautious and vigilant of any ground movement, as the situation was still considered dangerous.

“The longhouse villagers were instructed to move to the nearest longhouses if the situation escalate and contact the Public Works Department (JKR) Betong for further action,” it continued.

Rh Bantan, a 37-door longhouse with 248 residents, is located about 37km from the Betong fire station. — DayakDaily
