Landslide damages house in Kapit, no injuries reported

KUCHING, March 22: A landslide struck Bukit Datuk Seng along Jalan Airport in Kapit yesterday evening, affecting a non-permanent structure, but no injuries were reported.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the incident occurred at approximately 7.08pm, with the Kapit Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Kapit) dispatched to the scene.

The first responders, led by station chief Timoty Barat, arrived at 7.11pm, just three minutes after receiving the distress call.

Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed that the landslide had indeed impacted a house, but all occupants had already been safely evacuated by local residents before the team arrived.

No search-and-rescue operations were required.

“After assessing the situation and ensuring there was no further danger, the team concluded operations at 7.24pm and returned to the station,” the department said in a statement.

A total of 10 personnel, along with one LFRT (Light Fire Rescue Tender) and one EMRS (Emergency Medical Rescue Services) vehicle, were deployed to the scene.

Authorities have urged residents in landslide-prone areas to remain vigilant, especially during rainy conditions, and report any signs of soil movement to avoid potential hazards. — DayakDaily
