KUCHING, March 4: Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing has initiated swift measures following a landslide at Taman Belle Hill in Bintulu that threatened homes and residents, including the construction of a retaining wall and repair works.
In a Facebook post earlier today, Tiong said that upon receiving complaints from concerned residents, he immediately instructed his Special Officer, Steven Kong, to visit the site and work with relevant government agencies and the developer to find solutions that ensure the safety of the local community.
“Today, Steven visited Taman Belle Hill at 9am, alongside officials from the Bintulu District Office, the Bintulu Public Works Department (JKR), and the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA).
“They inspected the landslide site and discussed potential solutions. It is understood that the landslide occurred near a newly developed residential project, adjacent to an existing housing area.
“After thorough site assessments and discussions, all parties have agreed on several measures to eliminate safety hazards as soon as possible,” he explained.
The proposed mitigation efforts include the continuation of retaining wall construction, with the appointed consultancy firm overseeing the work to prevent further landslides as a primary measure.
Additionally, the developer’s consultant will submit safety design plans for BDA approval before continuing with the project, and the developer of the new housing project will assist in repairing the damaged homes.
Tiong, who is also Federal Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC), stressed that he will closely monitor the situation to ensure the necessary repairs and safety measures are completed without delay.
“I urge all involved parties to expedite their actions and complete the necessary repairs as soon as possible, allowing residents to regain a safe and stable living environment,” he added. — DayakDaily
