KUCHING, Nov 12: The Sarawak government has postponed the date to pay back land premiums to landowners to December 31 from the previous Oct 31 deadline, said Minister of Urban Development and Natural Resources II Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

He said it involved 7,174 land titles with a total amount of RM43,447,263.84.

“I’m referring to the announcement made on May 7, 2018 when the Sarawak government decided to reduce the land premium by 50 per cent for resettlement schemes and village extension schemes throughout Sarawak where the land premium was not exceeding RM2,500 per lot.

“And those who have paid more than RM2,500 will be refunded,” Awang Tengah said in his winding-up speech at the State Legislative Assembly here today.

However, he said the refund will not apply to Demak Phase 3, 4 and 6 resettlement schemes.

As of Oct 31, landowners have not applied for the refund.

Thus, he hoped landowners will apply for the refund from the Land and Survey Department before Dec 31, 2019. — DayakDaily
