KUCHING, Mar 28: Land and Survey Department (Land and Survey) has provided further details of the move by state government to provide 30 per cent discount for land rent and deferment of land premiums.

The department explained that the 30 per cent discount was applicable for this year’s land rent.

It expounded that any rent payable for the year 2020 will have 30 per cent discount.

Citing an example, Land and Survey outlined that if the current land rent was RM1,000, the owner would only be required to pay RM700 after the 30 per cent discount.

It outlined that if the land rent was due during the time of Movement Control Order (MCO), surcharge raised would not be imposed.

As for the deferment of land premium, Land and Survey explained that any installment payment for 2020 will be deferred to 2021.

It noted that owners will only be required to pay the installment premium in 2021.

Citing an example, it said if a land title issued in 2019 has the following installments such as first installment in 2019, second installment in 2020, third installment in 2021, fourth installment in 2022 and fifth installment in 2023, the second installment payable in 2020 will be treated as second payment in 2021.

On Monday, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg announced an economic aid package called Sarawakku Sayang Special Assistance to assist the people in mitigating the challenge affected by the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

One of the 16 measures he announced was the reduction of 30 per cent in land rent payments and one-off deferment for land premiums for 2020. —DayakDaily
