KUCHING, Feb 5: Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat has allocated RM150,000 to upgrade the Persatuan Penganut Dewa Wong Lao Xian Miri’s temple and road.

According to a report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, the sum was allocated under his Minor Rural Project (MRP) for 2022.

In addition, Ripin, who is also Assistant Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development II, allocated RM10,000 for the temple to organise their activities.

Speaking during a Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration programme organised by the temple on Friday, Ripin said despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the Chinese community continued to adhere to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by celebrating the festive season in moderation.

“This year, although we still follow Covid-19 SOPs, we have entered Phase 4 (of the National Recovery Plan). This makes Chinese New Year more lively,” he said.

Ripin added that the CNY festival is also celebrated by other races, reflecting the sense of unity in Sarawak.

At the same time, he also hoped that the people would continue to be vigilant to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the community. ― DayakDaily
