Labourer fined RM1,000 for lodging false police report

KUCHING, April 27: The Magistrate’s Court here sentences a labourer to a fine of RM1,000 to a charge of lodging a false police report.

The accused Sahrol Bakar pleaded guilty to the charge framed under Section 182 of the Penal Code, which carries imprisonment not exceeding six months or with fine up to RM2,000, or with both, upon conviction.

Magistrate Zaiton Anuar convicted him as charged and sentenced him to fine of RM1,000 or in default to 10 days’ imprisonment.

He was found lodging a false police report at Gita police station, at about 3.33pm on March 18, 2021.

According to the brief facts of the case, the accused in his police report said that he was robbed by three men riding on two motorcycles near Masjid Jamek Kuching at Jalan Tun Abdul Rahman Yakub, at about 11am on March 18, 2021.

He said two of the three men punched him and strangled his neck and took from him cash money of RM850.

Upon investigation by the police, it was found that the accused had made a false police report and the accused had actually lost the RM850 that he alleged was robbed.

The reason behind for the accused to lodge a false police report was because the money involved was supposed to be used to repair the house of the accused’s brother. — DayakDaily
