KUCHING, May 24: The Kuching Water Board (KWB) has aborted planned repair works on a leaking 1,400mm pumping main at Jalan Highfield Light Industrial–Jalan Batu Kawa this morning due to technical complications.

In a notice issued today, it said repair works, which it attempted at 9pm on May 23, had to be halted at 4am after encountering difficulties. The repair works will be rescheduled to a later date, which will be announced once confirmed.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience and understanding,” it said.

Yesterday, KWB attempted to carry out repair works for the second time for the leaking water pipe at the junction of Jalan Highfield Light Industrial and Jalan Batu Kawa here, after initial works failed due to incompatible materials with the aging infrastructure.

The critical pipeline, in service for over 30 years, supplies approximately 170 million litres per day (MLD), representing about 20 per cent of Kuching’s total treated water production of 778 MLD.

It serves key areas such as Matang Jaya, Petra Jaya, Demak Laut, and Semariang, including zones under the jurisdiction of the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) and surrounding communities. – DayakDaily
