KUTS Phase 1: 20.65 pct as of Apr 2024, RM623 mil in expenditure; targets Q4 2027 completion

KUCHING, May 13: The overall progress of Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS) Phase 1 stands at 20.65 per cent as of April 2024, with a capital expenditure of RM623 million, and is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2027.

According to Sarawak Minister of Transport (MOTS) Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, the KUTS Phase 1 project will be implemented in three stages, with The Blue Line Package 1 from Rembus to Stutong targeted to be completed by the end of 2025.

The Blue Line Package 1 was awarded on November 10, 2023, with a contract sum of RM568.61 million.

Meanwhile, the entire Blue Line and Red Line connecting Kuching Sentral to Pending is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026, while the green line connecting Pending to Damai is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027.

Lee, who is also Senadin assemblyman, said the ground foundation work for the Rembus Depot, serving as the central hub for the operations and administration of the Autonomous Rapid Transport (ART) system, is currently underway and is expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2024.

“The contract for this works package (Rembus Depot) was awarded on December 8, 2023, with a contract sum amounting to RM260 million,” he said during his ministerial winding-up speech on the sixth day of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) sitting today. — DayakDaily
