Kuching’s daily infections doubled to 307, two deaths reported

KUCHING, Aug 3: Kuching has once again recorded triple-digit Covid-19 cases today with 307 cases, twice the number of cases reported yesterday.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement said Kuching’s cases contributed 62.14 per cent of the total 494 total cases in Sarawak today.


On the breakdown of the cases, Kuching reported 307, followed by Serian (57), Subis (32), Bintulu (18), Samarahan (18), Bau (9), Miri (8), Sibu (8), Kabong (6), Simunjan (6), Pakan (5), Tatau (5), Lundu (4), Selangau (4), Lawas (3), Asajaya (2), Tebedu (1) and Sarikei (1).

SDMC also reported that of the total cases, 338 cases were screened after having contact to positive cases, 78 individuals linked to active clusters, 49 from other screenings in health facilities, 28 detected from screening of symptomatic individuals, and one Import B case involving an individual returning from Sabah.

The State also recorded two new fatalities involving two elderly men with comorbidities from Kuching and Mukah respectively. This brought the State’s death toll to 464.

On the same day, Sarawak also reported that 220 patients had recovered and were discharged from hospitals statewide, bringing the total number of recovered and discharged cases to 71,490 or 91.41 per cent.

There are 6,078 individuals still undergoing treatment at hospital isolation wards in the State. — DayakDaily
