KUCHING, Aug 3: A total of 9,429 people or 93 per cent of 10,133 educators, nannies and assistant educators at preschools, kindergartens and nurseries in Sarawak have been inoculated against Covid-19 as of July 10, 2021.

Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said of those vaccinated, 4,948 are educators while 3,585 are assistant educators.

Additionally, 751 of those vaccinated are nannies while 145 are assistant nannies.

“After the Movement Control Order (MCO) in Sarawak ended, the State government has allowed the kindergartens and nurseries to operate in order to provide support for frontliners to care for their children.

“Soon after, the ministry has requested the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to give vaccination priority to the personnel of the early childhood education institutions (IPAKKs) to increase the level of protection for themselves and the children from being infected with Covid-19,” she said during a press conference at the Baitulmakmur II building here today.

Fatimah also disclosed that there are 393 out of 645 IPAKKs or 61 per cent which have resume operation.

“The ones that are not operational at the moment are preschools under the Social Welfare Department (JKM), Kemas and Perpaduan,” she added. — DayakDaily
