KUCHING, Jan 7: With more housing projects carried out here, the Kuching Water Board (KWB) staff will have to brace themselves in ensuring the Board is able to meet the increasing demands of the people.
Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Julaihi Narawi said with more housing projects comes challenges related to water supply.
“For instance, we might face water supply problems in terms of low water pressure, pipe leakages and finding out the exact location of the source pipe.
“These are among the challenges that will be faced by KWB and I am confident that the staff’s experiences play an important role to tackle such problems in the future,” he said.
He said this when officiating the KWB appreciation night held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) earlier tonight.
Julaihi also said KWB will continue to move forward with the existing plans led by its chairman Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar and general manager Rodziah Mohamad.
He also thanked KWB for organising such an event which he described as a gesture that bolsters the importance of human resources in a water industry.
He added that KWB need committed and competent people to plan, develop and operate the water infrastructure.
Therefore, to ensure that staff would continue to give their best, appropriate recognition and appreciation should be accorded to spur them on.
The event witnessed a total of 131 KWB staff receiving Excellence Service Awards for the years 2018, 2019 and 2020.
Certificates of appreciation were also presented to 43 KWB retiring staff for the year 2020 and 2021 of which five of them were deceased.
Amongst those present were Modernisation of Agriculture And Regional Development Minister Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, Utility and Telecommunication I (Telecommunication) Assistant Minister Datuk Liwan Lagang, Utility and Telecommunication II (Telecommunication) Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication permanent secretary Dato Alice Jawan and Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department director Chang Kuet Shian. — DayakDaily
