Kuching tops with highest number of Covid-19 cases as Sarawak registers 270 cases

KUCHING, July 11: Kuching topped the list in the number of Covid-19 cases with Sarawak registering 270 cases today.

This is the third consecutive day that Sarawak has recorded a steady drop in the number of cases, compared to 406 on July 9 and 352 on July 10 (yesterday).


On the breakdown of the cases, Kuching reported 74, followed by Meradong (36), Mukah (22), Sarikei (21), Samarahan (16), Miri (14), Sibu (14), Bintulu (10), Saratok (10), Telang Usan (8), Subis (7), Sri Aman (6), Bukit Mabong (5), Kanowit (5), Bau (4), Julau (4), Kapit (4), Selangau (3), Marudi (2), Betong (1), Lundu (1), Pakan (1), Tatau (1) and Tebedu (1).

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), in a statement today, said two of the total cases involved detainees at the Narcotics Addiction Rehabilitation Centre (Puspen) Kuching.

In summary, 169 cases were screened after having contact to positive cases, 49 individuals linked to active clusters, 30 from other screenings in health facilities, 18 detected from screening of symptomatic individuals and four Import A cases involving individuals returning from Indonesia.

The State also recorded one new fatality involving a 71-year-old man in Bintulu who had high blood pressure, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and heart complication comorbidities. His death brought the State’s death toll to 432.

On the same day, Sarawak also reported 526 patients had recovered and discharged from hospitals statewide, bringing the total number of recovered and discharged cases to 58,931 or 85.57 per cent.

There are 9,349 individuals still undergoing treatment at hospital isolation wards in the State. — DayakDaily
