Kuching tops the list as Sarawak registers drop in total number of cases with 286

KUCHING, July 5: Kuching topped the list with 85 new Covid-19 cases as Sarawak registered 286 in total today, a drop of almost twice the number of cases reported yesterday.

On the breakdown of the total cases, Subis reported 50 cases, followed by Miri (32), Sibu (21), Bintulu (11), Saratok (11), Serian (11), Song (8), Asajaya (8), Sri Aman (7), Kapit (7), Bau (5), Bukit Mabong (5), Telang Usan (5), Tatau (4), Samarahan (4), Kanowit (3), Sarikei (2), Tanjung Manis (2), Simunjan (1), Selangau (1), Meradong (1), Beluru (1) and Lundu (1).


The State also recorded two new fatalities involving a 56-year-old man in Sibu who had no comorbidities as well as a 59-year-old man in Pakan who had comorbidities of high blood pressure and diabetes. These brought the State’s death toll to 421.

The number of individuals still receiving treatment at hospital wards statewide stands at 9,950 cases.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today said that 29 out of the 286 cases were symptomatic while as many as 236 cases comprised of individuals who had been instructed to undergo quarantine at designated places.

In short, 153 cases were screened after having contact to positive cases, 82 individuals linked to active clusters, 31 from other screenings in health facilities, 19 detected from screening of symptomatic individuals and one Import B case involving an individual returning from other state.

On the same day, Sarawak also reported 371 patients had recovered and discharged from hospitals statewide, bringing the total number of recovered and discharged cases to 56,745 or 84.35 per cent. — DayakDaily
