Kuching tops Sarawak’s Covid-19 daily toll, registering 159 out of 726 cases

KUCHING, May 29: Kuching led Sarawak’s Covid-19 case count today, and is the only district recording triple-digit cases, registering 159 new cases from the total of 726 in Sarawak.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said Kuching, Kapit, Sibu, Miri and Subis registered altogether 43 or 49.23 per cent of the total number of cases in the State.


Kapit reported 73 new cases, Sibu 72, Miri 66 and Subis 60 cases while the other districts with new infected patients were Bintulu (49), Samarahan (43), Pakan (28), Meradong (27), Selangau (16), Asajaya (16), Sarikei (15), Tanjung Manis (13), Beluru (13), Mukah (12), Serian (10), Matu (9), Pusa (8), Bau (8), Betong (5), Simunjan (5), Kanowit (4), Julau (4), Tatau (2), Saratok (2), Marudi (2), Song (2), Lawas (1), Sri Aman (1) and Sebauh (1).

SDMC added that the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak now stands at 46,162.

Out of the 726 cases today, 521 cases were detected following close contact screenings where four of them were symptomatic.

Another 124 cases were other screenings from health facilities where three cases showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection.

Additionally, there were 45 cases that were of individual screenings from active clusters, 34 cases were from symptomatic tests in health facilities and another two Import-B cases who returned from other states in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, the committee also reported four new deaths from Covid-19 today, thus increasing the death toll to 280.

The four fatalities today were aged between 58 to 72-years-old, with two hailing from Bintulu and Kapit. All four of them had medical histories of comorbidities.

With 497 new recoveries throughout Sarawak, there are still 7,907 patients receiving treatment in hospitals across Sarawak. — DayakDaily
