KUCHING, Aug 9: Kuching has been selected as the host for the national-level Malaysia Day 2026 celebrations, with the event to be held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

According to Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil, the decision was agreed upon at the first meeting on preparations for the celebrations held last Monday, following a site visit by his ministry.

He said BCCK was selected because it has suitable space to host a large-scale celebration, in addition to having facilities similar to those at last year’s Malaysia Day celebration venue in Butterworth, Penang.

“At this point, the decision is to hold it at BCCK. We have visited the location, and it is indeed very suitable in terms of space.

“It is almost similar to the Penang International Convention, Cultural, Arts Centre (PICCA) in Butterworth, where we held the Malaysia Day celebration last year,” he said at a press conference after attending the Ekspresi Jalur Gemilang JAPEN @ PETRONAS programme in Pantai Dalam, Kuala Lumpur, today, as reported by RTM.

He added that preparations for the celebration were progressing well, with the next meeting scheduled for Aug 24 to discuss preparations for the celebration. — DayakDaily
