KUCHING, April 22: Kuching will be the first city in Southeast Asia to implement live scoring and live streaming of the 40th Premier Sarawak Cup ITF World Tennis Tour Junior J300.

Minister for Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Sarawak Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that the whole world watching the tournaments will also help put Kuching and Sarawak on the international stage through more social media publicity.

“Starting tomorrow, we welcome more than 200 players, coaches, and parents from 38 countries to the Premier Sarawak Cup, including representatives from Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Russia, and many more.

“I am filled with pride at the opportunity to showcase the cultural diversity and sporting prowess that define our region,” he said at a press conference today at his office in Baitulmakmur Building 2.

He said the tournament will also see the appearance of former professional tennis player Yaroslava Shvedova, who is currently the national coach for the Kazakhstan team.

He said Yaroslava is a former world-ranking plater, including a former Olympian.

“Twice she won the double Wimbledon Grand Slam Championship and many WTA titles,” he added.

The 40th Premier Sarawak Cup ITF World Tennis Tour Junior J300 will be held from April 22 to 28 at the Sarawak Lawn Tennis Association Centre.

The ITF World Tennis Tour Junior comprises over 650 tournaments in 140 countries. On the tour, players compete in six tournament levels, from JA (which includes the Junior Grand Slam) to J1, J2, J3, J4, and J5 (the lowest level).
