Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, Bintulu, Sri Aman declared as rabies areas as of April 19

KUCHING, April 27: The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has declared Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, Bintulu, and Sri Aman as rabies areas as of April 19.

There have been a total of 78 recorded human rabies cases in Sarawak since 2017.

“Out of the total figure, 71 cases have been fatal,” it said in a statement today.

The department said since 2017, a total of 213,190 dogs were also vaccinated against rabies.

It added that in an effort to curb the spread of rabies, the Sarawak government will conduct the 2024 Integrated Rabies Operation in Kuching District from April 29 to May 3. — DayakDaily
