KUCHING, April 5: The Kuching-Samarahan Coastal Link Road project is expected to be completed by March 2025.
Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the project comprised three packages which involve the four-lane Sejingkat Bridge worth RM365,737,131, upgrading of the 7.5km-long Kampung Tanjung Bako Road worth RM37,499,160 and the construction of a new 7km-long road from Kampung Tanjung Bako to Batang Samarahan Bridge worth RM81,844,554.
“On the work progress, I was not really satisfied as the packages were having problems but we will tackle them. I am confident we will be able to do so.
“The Public Works Department (PWD) has its standard operating procedure (SOP), strategies and experiences. Some of the problems faced are not really unsolvable ones,” he said when visiting the project site today.
Uggah who is also the Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) further said that it is very important for constant monitoring and supervision to take place to ensure that the project is completed on time.
“If we rely on briefings in the office, it is not the same as visiting the sites where we can see and gauge the actual situation. So this is MIPD’s and the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government’s approach now.
“If there are problems and issues, we and the PWD can talk to the contractors concerned and find ways to solve them.
“The bottom line is that we want the projects to be completed as scheduled for the people and the State’s benefit,” he added. — DayakDaily
