KUCHING, Oct 12: The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Kuching, Simon Poh, expressed his gratitude to the Sarawak government for the Darjah Panglina Setia Bintang Sarawak (PSBS) award.
The award, which carries the title of ‘Dato’, was presented by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar during an investiture ceremony held at the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) complex in Petra Jaya.
According to Today’s Catholic, Poh said the award is an honour to the Catholic Church in Sarawak.
“This is an acknowledgement of our contribution to Sarawak from the Archdiocese of Kuching, Diocese of Sibu, and Diocese of Miri,” he said.
According to Poh, over the years, 62 Catholic Mission Schools throughout Sarawak have given thousands of children access to education in the cities and towns, especially in communities located in the interior of Sarawak.
He said the Catholic Church has constantly collaborated with the government’s effort to bring welfare services to those in need in the communities.
“On behalf of my brothers, Bishop Joseph Hii of Sibu and Bishop Richard Ng of Miri, we thank our Governor and Sarawak government for the recognition of the contribution of the Catholic Church.
“We continue the task of nation-building and promotion of harmony, mutual respect, and acceptance as the daily way of life in Sarawak,” he said.
On the same note, during an interfaith thanksgiving ceremony held on Oct 11 at Riverside Majestic in conjunction with the 78th birthday celebration of Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Poh was also among the invited religious leaders in Sarawak praying for the well being of Wan Junaidi. — DayakDaily
