KUCHING, Sept 5: The monthly Ibu Pertiwi flag-raising ceremony for September will take place this Sunday, Sept 8 at Dataran Ibu Pertiwi here.
According to a statement, the event will be officiated at by Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
“The Ibu Pertiwi flag-raising ceremony held every month is a sign of our respect for the symbol of Sarawak’s sovereignty.
“Ibu Pertiwi brings the meaning of sovereignty to Sarawak in addition to showing the greatness of the state of Sarawak with the red, black and yellow flag,” read the statement.
Residents of Kuching are invited to attend the flag-raising ceremony at Dataran Ibu Pertiwi, which will begin at 8am.
On July 28, Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg disclosed that the monthly Ibu Pertiwi flag-raising ceremony will be held on the first week of each month and will be organised by Kuching North City Hall (DBKU).
Abang Johari said that the event is significant because Dataran Ibu Pertiwi is a new tourist attraction in Kuching City and is part of a larger initiative to transform the city into a clean, sustainable, and resilient urban area. — DayakDaily
