Kuching remains yellow with 6 new cases while Samarahan has 3

KUCHING, July 24: Despite recording nine new positive cases of Covid-19 today in Sarawak with six in Kuching and three in Samarahan, Kuching remains yellow.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said Kuching still remains in the yellow zone of Covid-19 today as the number of new cases for the past two weeks was 38 cases.


He asserted that Kuching is on the brink of becoming the red zone of Covid-19 as it takes  three new positive cases to reach 41 cases.

Today’s nine new cases has brought the total cumulative Covid-19 cases in Sarawak to 641.

“Today, there were eight new cases involving close contact for an active cases.  All of them were identified from active case detection from the Sentosa Hospital cluster.

“All of them are healthcare workers in the facility which were tested on July 22. They involved five men and three women between the age of 30 to 48 years old.

“All of them are asymptomatic,” said  at a press conference on the state Covid-19 updates at the Old State Legislative Building here today.

Uggah who is also Deputy Chief Minister added that there was one imported case which involved a female student returning from Perth, Australia on July 20.

He said the student undergone Covid-19 swab test three days prior to her departure and her results were negative. Upon her arrival, she was tested with polymerase chain reaction (PCR) at the quarantine centre on July 21 and she was confirmed positive on July 23.

On person-under-investigation (PUI), Uggah said there were 18 new cases and five PUI cases were awaiting laboratory results. —DayakDaily
