Yesterday (July 16), Kuching recorded 238 cases and followed by Meradong with 26 cases.

For two days now, the caseload in Kuching has been on the high side due to the high number of positive cases from close contact screenings.

SDMC advisor Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, in a social media post last night, revealed that the case numbers in Kuching yesterday mostly came from screenings at Kampung Seratau, Puncak Borneo Prison, Sentosa Hospital, Kampung Bintawa Hilir, Kampung Semerah Padi and Kampung Garung.

Meanwhile, other districts that saw double-digit infections today were Serian (44), Sibu (28), Samarahan (21), Bau (17), Lundu (15), Sarikei (11) and Miri (10).

The rest included Beluru (8), Subis (7), Bintulu (5), Meradong (5), Tatau (5), Asajaya (4), Kapit (2), Mukah (2), Lubok Antu (2), Telang Usan (2), Betong (1), Simunjan (1), Song (1), Belaga (1), Lawas (1) and Selangau (1).

With 388 total cases today, SDMC said the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in the whole of Sarawak now stands at 71,039.

“Out of the 388 patients today, 271 were detected following close contact screenings where 10 of them were symptomatic.

“Another 57 cases were of individual screenings from active clusters where two showed signs and symptoms of Covid-19 infection.

“Adding on, there were 21 cases that were of symptomatic screenings from health facilities, 31 cases were from other screenings in health facilities, and eight Import-B cases who came from Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah,” it said in the statement on Covid-19 update today.

No deaths were reported for the day, thus the death toll in Sarawak stood still at 443.

In the meantime, 409 patients were discharged from hospitals across Sarawak, so there remain 5,061 active cases in isolation or treatment. — DayakDaily
