KUCHING, July 17: The Covid-19 daily case numbers in Kuching Division rose to 254 yesterday (July 16) with nearly half of the cases coming from Kampung Seratau, Puncak Borneo Prison, Sentosa Hospital, Kampung Bintawa Hilir, Kampung Semerah Padi and Kampung Garung.
Minister for Local Government and Housing Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian revealed that these six locations contributed 120 cases to Kuching’s Covid-19 statistics yesterday, with Kampung Seratau recording the highest number of infection cases at 39.
This was followed by Puncak Borneo Prison (29 cases), Sentosa Hospital (18 cases), Kampung Bintawa Hilir (14 cases), Kampung Semerah Padi (11 cases) and Kampung Garung (9 cases).
Of the 254 cases recorded by Kuching Divisional Health Office in the past 24 hours of Friday, Dr Sim pointed out that about 70 per cent or 192 cases were traced to close contacts of positive cases in 58 locations all over the city.
“(Of the figure), 21 cases were imported from outside Kuching with Bau (9), Betong (6), Lundu (3), Samarahan (2) and Serian (1).
“Ten cases were symptomatic while four cases were detected from pre-screening,” he shared in a Facebook post last night.
Other locations with more than three cases which could turn into a cluster if the outbreak is not contained include Taman Sourabaya Indah, Lorong Cenderawashi, Taman Winning Height, Lorong Cahaya Damai, Taman Yen Yen, Borneo Samariang Garden, Kampung Tabuan Lot, Kampung Astana Lot, Kampung Jawa, Kampung Sungai Bedaun, Kampung Telaga Air, Kampung Bako Hulu, Taman Landeh Indah, King Hong Steel quarter and RPR Batu 12.
Dr Sim also emphasised that four localities namely Kampung Mambong with about 1,500 residents, five villages within Kampung Tabuan Melayu (8,826 residents), Kampung Astana Lot and Sungai Bedil Besar (1,800 and 1,970 residents respectively) and Kampung Seratau (1,215 residents) have been placed under lockdown. — DayakDaily
