Kuching registers triple-digit Covid-19 cases for 11th day in a row

KUCHING, June 5: Kuching registered triple-digit cases again for the 11th consecutive day, contributing 146 cases or 22.42 per cent of the 651 total number of cases in Sarawak today.

Other major districts like Sibu and Miri reported a drop in the number of cases after registering only 75 and 57 infections respectively today, compared to 115 and 113 cases yesterday.


On the breakdown of the total cases, Kuching reported 146, followed by Sibu (75), Sebauh (57), Miri (53), Meradong (36), Subis (35), Bintulu (30), Dalat (24), Kapit (22), Pakan (21), Bau (20), Asajaya (20), Serian (15), Tatau (15), Samarahan (13), Song (11), Sri Aman (9), Sarikei (9), Kabong (7), Telang Usan (6), Tebedu (5), Lubok Antu (4), Pusa (3), Betong (3), Selangau (3), Mukah (3), Bukit Mabong (2), Kanowit (2), Lundu (1) and Saratok (1).

This brings the total number of Covid-19 cases in the State to 50,571, surpassing the 50,000 mark.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement today said 62 out of the 651 cases were symptomatic.

As many as 524 cases comprised of individuals who had been instructed to undergo quarantine at designated places.

In short, 404 cases were screened after having contact to positive cases, 118 individuals linked to active clusters, 65 from other screenings in health facilities, 62 detected from screening of symptomatic individuals, and two Import B cases involving individuals returning from other States.

The State also recorded two new fatalities involving two elderly women aged 62 and 65, bringing the state’s death toll to 318.

On the same day, Sarawak also reported that 440 patients have recovered and were discharged from hospitals statewide, bringing the total number of recoveries and discharge cases to 41,404 or 81.87 per cent.

There are 8,736 individuals still undergoing treatment at hospital isolation wards in the State.

There were 651 new person-under-investigation (PUI) cases reported and none awaiting laboratory test results. — DayakDaily
