Kuching police detain two motorcyclists during “Ops Samseng Jalanan”

KUCHING, Dec 13: Two motorcyclists, including one female, aged 18 and 17 years, were arrested by the police for doing a “wheelie” on their machine during “Ops Samseng Jalanan” conducted in Kuching yesterday.

Kuching district police chief Supt Merbin Lisa, said both individuals was arrested at the junction entrance of Kampung Pulo Ulu Road here for abetting and performing a “wheelie” action

“They were brought to the Kuching police headquarters Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division for further action, and the case is being investigated under Section 42(1), and Section 111, of the Road Transport Act,” he said in a press statement today.

Merbin also revealed that a total of 32 summons were issued to 23 motorcyclists during the “Ops Samseng Jalanan” for various offences.

He said the operation, which started at 4.30pm, was conducted at Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Muhamad Salahuddin road, Bako road, Gambier road, Stadium road, Tunku Abdul Rahman road besides the areas surrounding Masja, Petra Jaya, and ended at 1am, today.

“The objective of the operation is to prevent and eradicate the element of “road bully” for driving or riding recklessly and dangerously.

“The “Ops Samseng Jalanan” will also be implemented continuously in order to track the dangerous drivers or riders, as an effort to reduce the rate of road accidents, especially involving fatal accidents in the district,” he said.

At the same time, he also advised road users to always comply with the road rules and regulations that have been set up.

Among the offences that were issued with summons during the operation are namely driving without driving license (seven), not using safety helmet (two), not displaying vehicle road tax (one), vehicle without side mirrors (four), exhaust modification (two), modification on vehicle structure (three), failure to produce driving license (one), vehicle without registration number (four), using vehicle plate number which is not according to the rules (four), malfunction vehicle horn (three) and expired road tax (one). — DayakDaily
