Kuching logs 1,541 Covid-19 cases, accounts for almost half of total 3,660 cases in Sarawak

KUCHING, Sept 16: As Sarawak records 3,660 new Covid-19 cases today, Kuching has taken up almost half the total with a record of 1,541 cases.

With today’s caseload, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases in Sarawak has increased to 170,672 cases.


Of the total, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said 3,659 cases or 99.97 per cent were Category 1 and 2 patients with none or mild symptoms, and one case or 0.03 per cent was of Category 5, a patient with a lung infection and requiring ventilator support.

In terms of districts, seven reported three-digit case numbers today. They were Samarahan (268), Sibu (255), Serian (245), Bintulu (219), Miri (189), Bau (159), and Asajaya (127).

Other districts that saw double-digit case numbers were Lundu (99), Sri Aman (79), Kapit (68), Betong (53), Simunjan (46), Tebedu (46), Limbang (34), Song (27), Lubok Antu (25), Meradong (18), Subis (18), Sarikei (16), Belaga (16), Lawas (15), Kabong (14), Tatau (14), Selangau (13), and Julau (12).

The remaining districts with new infections included Matu (8), Telang Usan (7), Dalat (6), Pusa (5), Marudi (4), Saratok (3), Beluru (3), Bukit Mabong (3), Kanowit (2), and Pakan (1).

Only three districts namely Mukah, Daro, and Tanjang Manis were free of new cases today.

Meanwhile, SDMC reported five new Covid-19 fatalities, with two in Sibu and one each in Kuching, Mukah, and Miri.

Aged between 39 and 78, all five victims had comorbidities. — DayakDaily
