KUCHING, Nov 15: The Kuching Division Iban community leaders have expressed gratitude to the Sarawak chief minister for the continued confidence in the leadership of the Village Development and Security Community (JKKK).

Temenggong Datuk Bernard Aggan Assan said the chief minister, Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, announced RM100 million for the JKKK in the Sarawak Budget 2020.

The state also announced that it would fully pay the RM900 allowance of the village chief and JKKK chairperson after Putrajaya announced recently that it would no longer allocate RM500 to top up the monthly allowance of community leaders beginning next year.

“The kind gesture by Abang Johari proved that he is a leader for all Sarawakian. The announcement is a relief for us.

“As such, the allowances of RM900 for the Tuai Rumah, Ketua Kampung and the Kapitan, who are also leaders of the respective JKKKs, would be fully paid for by the state government,” he said in a statement.

Aggan added that the JKKK organisation is still effective and relevant in serving the people.

“We reject the formation of the MPKKP, which is the federal village community management committee, as wanted by the Pakatan Harapan government. Its formation will not only confuse the people but will disunite them,” he said.

Aggan called on all the JKKKs to reorganise and strengthen themselves.

He urged the people to continue rally behind the state Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government in bringing more progress and development to the state.

“We must fully support GPS to ensure our state will continue to be governed by Sarawakian leaders to protect our rights and wealth, as well as our unity and harmony,” he opined. — DayakDaily
