KUCHING, July 8: The Kuching District Office has started a compulsory ‘Gotong-Royong’ cleanliness programme to be carried out every two months at every village in the district, says Deputy Minister of Energy and Environmental Sustainability Dr Hazland Abang Hipni.
Dr Hazland said that the State government has given a large amount of allocations in funds for Village Security And Development Committees (JKKK) for these villages.
He revealed that there are currently 34 JKKK in his Demak Laut constituency that will receive a minimum of RM15,000 each annually.
“These JKKK are to report their ‘Gotong-Royong’ cleanliness programme activities to Kuching South City Council (MBKS) by photo evidence,” he said at the launching of a ‘Gotong Royong Bersama Komuniti Kampung Tabuan Melayu’ at the compound of Masjid Darul Hajat, Kampung Tabuan Melayu organised by MBKS in conjunction with ‘Bulan Kebersihan Bandaraya Kuching Julai 2023’ today.
Dr Hazland went on to say that this programme is aimed at being a cleanliness culture programme for these JKKKs.
“This new government initiative is to ensure that cleaning is to be carried out all the time in every villagein the city,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dr Hazland also proposed for a new recycling centre to be built in the vicinity of Kampung Tabuan Melayu in the Tabuan Industrial Park zone.
He said that with such a facility, people could get rid of recycled items, and MBKS could also turn these recycled items into additional revenue along with the village residents.
He went on to say that he would have further discussions with MBKS on the matter and would want to utilise his 2024 Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) funding for the project.
