KUCHING, Aug 15: Kuching City’s skyline is veiled in haze today, despite recording a moderate air quality reading with Serian recording the highest level at 89 points, while Kuching was at 87 and Sri Aman at 83.
These readings are according to the Air Pollutant Index of Malaysia (APIMS) as at 12pm today.
Samarahan came in fourth highest across the State at 77 points, while the remaining areas across Sarawak registered readings below the 65-point mark.
The range of 51 to 100 indicates moderate air quality, generally considered safe for the majority of people, although individuals in highly sensitive groups might experience some impact.
Malaysia employs a five-category Air Pollutant Index (API) to categorise air quality. Hazardous levels are readings above 300, while 201 to 300 is considered very unhealthy; 101-200 is unhealthy; 51-100 is moderate and everything below 50 is good.
