KUCHING, Aug 2: This year’s Kuching City Parade (KCP) which will start at 6pm from Travillion Commercial Centre, Jalan Padungan, to the General Post Office Building will take place on August 5.
Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Datuk Sebastian Ting said KCP promise to be the ultimate spectacular event in commemorating the 60th anniversary of Sarawak Independence.
He expects at least 5,000 to 8,000 people to come as Kuching Food Festival 2023 is still the main crowd-puller during this period in Kuching City.
“The parade involves 60 contingents with about 2,400 participants, including government departments, private sector, non-government organisations, village development and security committees (JKKKs), uniformed bodies, schools and academic institutions,” he told reporters during the press conference for the parade which was held at Baitulmakmur, Medan Raya today.
Ting, who is the deputy minister in charge of the event, revealed that the street parade includes a competition for the best content, a photography competition, a pocket show and a fireworks display.
“To entertain the crowds, a live concert performed by our local guest artistes, such as At Adau, Carrie Geres, Rickie Anderson, Firdaus Materang and Raquel.
He disclosed the full-dress rehearsal for KCP will be on August 4 within Kuching Hilton Hotel’s vicinity at 7.30pm.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will be the guest-of-honour on the actual day of the street parade.
“A similar street parade with the same number of contingents and activities will be held in Sibu on August 12 and in Miri on August 15.
“These two parades are expected to be crowd-pullers; parades are seldom held in these two places.
“The flag-off for these three street parades will be performed by Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah who is also the minister-in-charge of the events,” said Ting.
The Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, Sarawak Protocol, Ceremonial and Event Management Unit Office of the Premier of Sarawak and five councils include Kuching North City Hall, Kuching South City Council, Sibu Municipal Council, Sibu Rural District Council, and Miri City Council are jointly organising these events. — DayakDaily
