“Complementing this is the National Adaptation Plan, which will enhance preparedness and responses to the effects of climate change,” he said in his speech text.

Anwar emphasised that urban planning and national resilience against flood disasters will also be enhanced through the implementation of strategies to reduce disaster risks.

“These efforts will be expanded by incorporating disaster risk management plans into State Structure Plans and Local Plans,” he said

In addition to Kuching, the flood mitigation projects will cover several key locations including Sungai Langat and Sungai Buloh in Selangor; Sungai Golok in Kelantan; Sungai Gemencheh in Tampin, Negeri Sembilan; Sungai Baru in Melaka; Johor and Muar River Basins in Johor; and Pahang River Basin.

On technological advancement, Anwar revealed that early warning systems will be upgraded using AI-based technologies to improve forecasting and alert mechanisms, ensuring communities are better informed and protected in the face of disasters.

“The responsibility of safeguarding the health of the Earth and addressing the effects of climate change and disaster risks must not be taken lightly,” he added. — DayakDaily
