KUCHING, April 18: Kuching Chung Hua Primary Schools (CHPS) Board of Management representative Aaron Tay Kok Tung is calling on State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to announce the closure of schools as soon as possible.
In the case of many schools where the teachers, students and parents were diagnosed for Covid-19 lately, he said it would be a necessary act for SDMC to decisively announce the closure of schools as soon as possible.
He added the announcement should come in due time so that the schools and parents could better prepare themselves for the upcoming online classes.
“SDMC should temporarily suspend classes for two weeks so that online classes can replace physical teaching in order to effectively suppress the spread of the virus on campus, and then make appropriate adjustments to the situation at the time,” he said in a statement today.
Adding on, Tay stressed that the current standard operating procedures (SOPs) ought to be strengthened and continuously monitored while speeding up the pace of vaccination to protect the safety of all Sarawakians.
He said enforcement of regulations must be tightened for any individuals entering Sarawak where they must undergo the 14-day quarantine period at designated places, and not self-quarantine or home quarantine.
“In the meantime, vaccination is currently the only effective way to stop the spread of the virus, therefore it is necessary to encourage and assist family members as well as friends around us to register for vaccination.
“The Sarawak government should also arrange vaccination as soon as possible to achieve the goal of 70 per cent of Sarawakians’ successful vaccination and accomplish the aim of herd immunity,” said Tay. — DayakDaily
