KUCHING, Dec 4: Kuching is set to come alive this Saturday (Dec 6) with the Kuching City Christmas Parade, featuring more than 7,000 participants from 72 churches, colourful floats depicting Nativity scenes, angels, shepherds with sheep, wise men and other festive displays to spread the message of peace and joy.
Organised by the Association of Churches in Sarawak (ACS) and hosted this year by the Methodist Church SCAC, the parade is one of Kuching’s largest and most vibrant street events of the year.
According to a media release from ACS following a press conference today, participating churches include the Roman Catholic Church, Anglican Church, Methodist Church SCAC, Methodist Church SIAC, BEM (SIB) Church, Seventh-Day Adventist Church, The Salvation Army, Sarawak Baptist Church, Sarawak Blessed Church, and member churches of SECA such as City Harvest Church, Hope Church Kuching and GIS Gospel Harvest Kuching.
The parade will assemble at MBKS Jubilee Ground (adjacent to Chung Hua Primary School No. 3) at 6pm, followed by praise and worship at 6.15pm, and officially start at 6.45pm. Gifts will be distributed to the public at 8pm, and participants will return to the Jubilee Ground by 9.30pm.
Christmas floats will be on display at St Peter’s Church, Padungan, after the parade for public viewing.
The 4km parade route will cover MBKS Jubilee Ground, Jalan Padungan, Jalan Tun Abdul Rahim (Waterfront), Lebuh Temple (Harbour View Hotel), Lebuh Wayang (Medan Pelita), Jalan Tabuan (Borneo Hotel), Jalan Ban Hock (Grand Continental Hotel/MBKS flats), and back to the Jubilee Ground.
Themed “The Season of Love and Hope”, ACS said the parade aims to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas by promoting harmony, unity, goodwill, and inclusivity across Kuching and Sarawak.
ACS secretary-general Elder Ambrose Linang emphasised the parade as a reminder of Kuching’s strength in diversity and the importance of solidarity, tolerance, and religious acceptance.
Leading the parade will be five Boys’ Brigade musical bands alongside 15 elaborately decorated Christmas floats.
Participants and organisers are praying for fine weather to make the event a memorable celebration of faith, culture, and community.
ACS branches in Miri and Bintulu will also hold their city Christmas parades on Dec 6, while ACS Serian, Mukah, and Samarahan branches will hold theirs on Dec 7.
Road restrictions will be in place along the parade route from 7pm to 9pm, with access to MBKS Jubilee Ground limited from 5pm. — DayakDaily
