Kuching Bodhi hosting wide range of interactive, community sessions during suicide prevention exhibition at Vivacity from Oct 8-9

'Suicide Prevention Educational Exhibition' will be held from Oct 8-9, 2022 at Vivacity Megamall, Kuching.

KUCHING, Oct 4: The Kuching Bodhi Counselling Centre (Kuching Bodhi) will hold a ‘Suicide Prevention Educational Exhibition’ on Oct 8 and Oct 9, 2022 at the Vivacity Megamall, Kuching in response to the suicide prevention theme of “Creating Hope Through Action” and to raise awareness of mental health services.

According to a press release, every year in September and October, the World Health Organisation (WHO) designates Suicide Prevention Day and Mental Health Day to raise public awareness about suicide and mental health issues.

During the two-day exhibition, the organiser has also lined up fun, healing, interactive activities as well as a mental health assessment.


The first highlight is the ‘Gatekeeper Educational Exhibition’ created by the Kuching Bodhi Counselling Centre, which teaches how to question, persuade, and refer to a gatekeeper.

For the second highlight, the organiser organised workshops on self-care for the general public.

The Sarawak Social Welfare Department’s (JKMS) counselling section will organise two drum circle therapy sessions on the first day, where participants will be able to release their stress by beating the rhythm of the music.

The first session will run from 12pm to 1.30pm, and the second from 4pm to 5.30pm.

Furthermore, Alice from Bliss Yoga Centre will lead a stress-relieving yoga therapy on the second day, from 11am to 12pm, with body stretching, breathing, and yoga to activate the parasympathetic nerves and relax the body and mind.

For the third highlight, the organiser has invited major mental health services providers and organisations from across Kuching to participate, including the Psychiatric Department of Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), the Psychiatric Team of Hospital Sentosa, Counselling Section of JKMS, Psychiatric Department of Borneo Medical Centre (BMC), Kuching Befrienders, Mental Health Association of Sarawak (MHAS), and Grace Centre and Counselling Centre of St Joseph’s Church to promote their mental health services to the public.

Finally, during the two-day exhibition, the organiser is also hosting ‘Let’s Talk’, a community listening station, and a free hug session.
