Kuching accounts for nearly half of 289 new Covid-19 cases in Sarawak today

KUCHING, July 14: Sarawak recorded 289 new Covid-19 cases and four deaths today.

The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in its daily update said Kuching contributed the highest number of new cases with 137, followed by Sibu (31); Bukit Mambong (16); 14 each in Samarahan and Beluru; and 12 in Miri.

Of the new cases, six of them involved immigration detainees in Kuching and one in Simunjan under Ops Benteng.


The committee added that the new cases consisted of 172 which comprised individuals with contact to positive cases; 38 from existing active clusters; 45 from screenings of symptomatic individuals at health facilities and 34 from other screenings at health facilities.

A total of 221 individuals did not have any symptoms or signs of Covid-19.

The cumulative number of cases in Sarawak now stands at 69,865 .

On the four fatalities, one was brought-in-dead at Serian Hospital. The 71-year-old man who had high blood pressure tested positive on July 12.

Kapit Hospital registered two deaths, comprising a 55-year-old woman and an 84-year-old man. Both of them had medical histories of high blood pressure, asthma, stroke and dyslipidemia.

A 47-year-old man with comorbidities of high blood pressure, diabetes, gout, heart and kidney disease who tested positive for Covid-19 on June 26 was the fourth fatality reported today. He died at Sarawak General Hospital.
