Krian River tragedy: Myanmar crewman found with only lower half remaining

KUCHING, Aug 11: The body of a Myanmar national who was feared to have drowned after falling into the Krian River from a vessel anchored at the Batu Pekan Wharf in Saratok was found.

According to a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), the body was found on the fourth day of the search and rescue (SAR) operation today.

At 12.23pm, the operations commander received a report from villagers who found the body floating in the river near Lubuk Petan, Kampung Kupang.

It was noted that the victim’s body was found with only the lower half from the waist to the feet remaining and bearing bite marks.

Firefighters and police personnel arrived at the location to transport the body back to be identified, in which police confirmed that it was the victim, who was handed over to the police for further action, and the operation ended at 1.40pm.

The victim, identified as 20-year-old Thu Htoo Aung, was reported to have gone missing on Aug 8 at 9.30am when he fell into the river and did not resurface.

Crew members were unable to locate him, which prompted them to lodge a report and seek help. — DayakDaily
