Kpg Tupong Cluster and Jln Foochow Cluster among six new clusters emerging in Kuching today

KUCHING, Aug 15: Six new clusters emerged in Kuching district today, bringing the total number of active Covid-19 clusters in Kuching to 43.

The new clusters are Kampung Tupong Cluster, Jalan Foochow Cluster, Besi Dua Cluster, Stapok 2 Settlement Scheme Cluster, Jalan Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim Cluster and Jalan Rubber 2 Cluster.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement said the Kampung Tupong Cluster involved a number of families living in Kampung Tupong, Jalan Astana, Petra Jaya.

“A total of 183 individuals have been screened whereby 29 people tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case and 154 were negative,” it said.

The Jalan Foochow Cluster involves residents living in a housing area in Jalan Foochow 1, who tested positive for Covid-19.

Following this, 105 individuals were screened whereby 39 people tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case and 66 were negative.

Meanwhile, a total of 22 individuals, including the index case, were found positive in the Stapok 2 Settlement Scheme Cluster after 85 people were screened.

The other three clusters were workplace clusters whereby Besi Dua Cluster involved workers of an iron factory located in Demak Laut Industrial Area, Jalan Demak Laut, Petra Jaya.

A total of 140 individuals have been screened whereby 18 people tested positive for Covid-19 including the index case and 122 were negative.

In Jalan Datuk Abang Abdul Rahim Cluster which involves employees of a transport company located at Pending, 20 individuals have been confirmed positive for Covid-19 so far out of the 124 total individuals screened.

Jalan Rubber Dua Cluster, on the other hand, had recorded seven positive cases, 38 negative while 21 other individuals are still awaiting laboratory results. The said cluster involved traders belonging to a coffee shop located at Rubber Road.

All positive cases from the six new clusters were referred and admitted to Sarawak General Hospital and Kuching Low-Risk Treatment Centre (PKRC) for isolation and further treatment.

At the same time, SDMC announced the end of two clusters namely, Industri 121 Kuala Baram Cluster in Miri and Sungai Setajam Cluster in Sarikei.

At present, there are 103 active clusters in the State with 13 of them recording an increase of 82 new positive cases. — DayakDaily
