KUCHING, Aug 17: A franchise business development grant worth RM100,000 is up for grabs in this year’s Students Franchise Programme (PFS) organised by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP).

The virtual programme, which is a collaboration between KPDNHEP and the Malaysian Franchise Association (MFA) will include 20 public universities and three premier polytechnics who will compete in the Franchise Business Challenge for the grant.

The programme was officiated by KPDNHEP secretary general Datuk Seri Hasnol Zam Zam Ahmad virtually with the attendance of 500 participants from all over Malaysia today.

PFS was first introduced in 2014 to provide exposure to the concept of franchise business to students and provide opportunities for involvement in such businesses.

This comprehensive programme takes place in three phases, namely Franchise Exposure Seminar, Franchise Business Intensive Course and Franchise Business Challenge.

The ministry in a statement today said the PFS aimed to realize the government’s initiative to develop micro and affordable franchise businesses, namely franchise business packages worth RM50,000 and below (micro) and RM100,000 and below (affordable), to produce more franchise entrepreneurs.

“The involvement of higher education institutions in realizing the growth aspirations of more micro and affordable franchises will help not only the students but also the country.

“Apart from attracting more entrepreneurs to venture into franchise businesses especially among the younger generation, this effort will create more job opportunities at a time when the country is facing economic challenges following the Covid-19 pandemic,” it said. — DayakDaily
