KUCHING, March 12: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Costs of Living (KPDN) Sarawak has conducted inspections on 1,139 premises throughout Sarawak from March 2 to March 7, 2025, under Ops Pantau 2025.
According to its press statement, a total of four enforcement actions were taken against premises found to be in violation of the set regulations. These violations consist of three cases under the Weights and Measures Act 1972 and one case under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011, with a total compound value of RM700.
Ops Pantau, which has been effective since March 2, 2025, has been implemented to monitor subsidised controlled goods, prices, discounted sales, weighing and measuring tools, counterfeit/pirated goods, halal discussions, the Festive Season Maximum Pricing Scheme (SHMMP), and the sale of essential items during the Ramadan festive season.
The operation was carried out throughout Sarawak with focus on locations such as Ramadan Bazaars, Aidilfitri Bazaars, open markets, wet markets, large supermarkets, retail store supermarkets, and online sales activities.
KPDN Sarawak director Matthew Dominic Barin along with KPDN Sarawak chief enforcement officer Peter J Berinus Agang today conducted a walkabout at the Stutong Ramadan Bazaar, Kuching, Sarawak to monitor the implementation of Ops Pantau 2025, which is effective from March 2 to March 31, 2025.
Also present during the inspection were the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department and the Public Health and Licensing Division of the Kuching South City Council.
“KPDN Sarawak wishes to remind all traders to comply with the regulations set by the government, especially during the month of Ramadan, by practicing ethical business conduct and not taking unreasonable profits,” Matthew said.
Meanwhile, KPDN Sarawak reported that since Jan 1 to March 7, 2025, the ministry has conducted inspections on 32,631 premises, resulting in 432 cases against premises found violating regulations set by the government.
The estimated value of the seizure was RM2.664 million while the estimated total value of the compound was RM76,400.
KPDN Sarawak further vowed to enhance the omnipresence of its enforcement officers and price monitoring officers at locations frequented by consumers to create a safe and ethical business and shopping environment.
