While no injuries were reported, he expressed serious concern over the safety implications of the incident and stressed that the well-being of students and staff must always be the top priority.

During his visit, he engaged with school administrators to understand the extent of the damage. He also highlighted the importance of ensuring that public infrastructure projects are carried out with the highest standards of safety.

Yap raised concerns regarding whether a qualified government agency had been appointed to supervise the renovation project, whether procurement procedures were properly followed in selecting the contractor, and whether the works complied with relevant safety standards and building codes.

He also urged the authorities to expedite the investigation process and to strengthen oversight mechanisms for ongoing and future public work, with all the documentation related to the works for the school hall to be reviewed.

The fire marked the second incident reported at the same school hall, currently undergoing renovation, within the span of 24 hours, with the cause believed to be linked to a short circuit. –DayakDaily
