KUCHING, July 26: Political leaders should devote their energy to serving the people rather than engaging in endless political theatre, as such acts only distract from the pressing challenges facing the nation and undermine efforts to foster unity and progress.
In a statement, Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap was responding to what he described as ‘political mudslinging’ among political parties in Peninsular Malaysia centred on issues of race and religion.
“Fortunately, Sarawak has charted a different path under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government.
“Our government has consistently placed development, economic transformation, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and the protection of Sarawak’s constitutional rights at the forefront of its agenda.
“This focus on good governance, stability, and long-term planning has enabled Sarawak to continue attracting investments, creating employment opportunities, and improving the quality of life for all Sarawakians,” he said.
Yap went on to say that Sarawak’s strength has always been in its unity, as its people have lived together in peace and mutual respect for generations, regardless of race, religion, or background—making it one of the State’s greatest assets.
He also said that politics should be about delivering tangible results for the people, not creating unnecessary controversy or deepening societal divisions.
“I therefore urge all political leaders to rise above narrow political interests and place the welfare of the people first. Sarawak’s success demonstrates that when a government remains focused on development, inclusivity, and unity, meaningful progress can be achieved for everyone.
“The GPS government will continue to uphold these values and remain committed to building a prosperous, stable, and united Sarawak where every community benefits from development and every Sarawakian has the opportunity to succeed,” he said. — DayakDaily
